Job Summary

The Chief of Staff is a strategic advisor to the CEO, leading fundraising and development initiatives across both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) programs. This role oversees the development team, coordinates cross-functional initiatives, and ensures fundraising operations align with organizational goals. The Chief of Staff drives donor engagement, major gifts strategy, and special campaigns while acting as a key liaison between the CEO, staff, and external stakeholders. This position reports directly to the CEO and plays a critical role in scaling the organization’s fundraising capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise the CEO on fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and revenue growth initiatives
  • Lead long-term planning for 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) fundraising programs
  • Manage, coach, and develop the fundraising team to achieve performance goals
  • Develop and execute annual fundraising plans, including major gifts and high-impact campaigns
  • Monitor fundraising performance metrics and ensure alignment with organizational objectives
  • Analyze donor data to identify trends, opportunities, and strategic priorities
  • Coordinate collaboration between development, communications, and operations teams
  • Oversee donor pipeline management and reporting for major donors and prospects
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and internal guidelines for all fundraising activities
  • Act as a liaison for the CEO with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Support the CEO on special projects, campaigns, and strategic initiatives
  • Implement scalable processes and systems to streamline fundraising operations

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in development, fundraising, or nonprofit management
  • Strong leadership, team management, and coaching skills
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning abilities
  • Knowledge of major gifts fundraising, donor pipelines, and prospect management
  • Ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable strategies
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and initiatives
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of compliance requirements for nonprofit fundraising

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofit environments
  • Track record of scaling fundraising operations and processes
  • Experience advising senior leadership on strategic and revenue-related initiatives
  • Familiarity with political or advocacy-focused nonprofit fundraising

Working Conditions

  • Office-based with flexibility for remote work as needed
  • Occasional travel to donor meetings, events, and organizational conferences
  • Standard business hours with flexibility to accommodate donor engagement activities

Compensation & benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience ranging from $125,000 – $170,000
